Reflection performance is one of the most important characteristics of flat panel display. In this paper we mainly focused on the research of flat panel displays' reflection characteristics: specular, lambertion and haze, advanced measurement and evaluation methods according to different characteristics, built flat panel displays' bidirectional reflectance distribution function formalism to analyze the reflection characteristics. Results show that we can exactly characterize flat panel displays' reflectance by using bidirectional reflectance distribution function, and it has significant research meaning on developing high-quality and healthy display.Based on flat panel displays' spectral reflectance factor and darkroom measurement results, the ambient contrast ratio of a display module under defined illumination can be calculated using linear superposition and scaling principle, such as indoor, daylight or other illumination conditions, which built a great foundation to the evaluation system for flat panel display.Contrast and readability of flat panel display are not consistent. It's evident that readability is also restricted by viewer's age, display's luminance and contrast, resolution of details, etc. Besides, people's apperceive ability to character or image is very complicated, and beyond the area of our research. In the research, base on the model of Weston visual performance, readability of flat panel display was analyzed.
