This article aims at the key technology for the MPEG2 to AVS transcoding with both theoretical and experimental analysis. MPEG2 is the video standard application in the modern radio and television broadcast. Also, as the formal application of the DVD video standard, MPEG2 set the milestone in its development. AVS is designed by our country. Not only its innovative technology, but also its knowledge potent right make AVS a bright prospect of development.In this paper, during the research of the cascaded type transcoding algorithm under pixel domain, we propose an improved Fast dual-domain mapping architecture. In the intra mode, we improved the luma and chroma mode decision without scarify the quality of the image and the computation is reduced. In the inter mode, we introduce an improved prediction algorithm of half-pixel and a quarter-pixel motion vector.This algorithm reduce the complexity and faster the transcoding speed. About the quantization process, the DCT coefficients have all been analysis and a fast reuse method is researched. All this method above can reduce expense of the hardware and save the cost and decrease the time that the video spend on transmission. Those can meet the demand of the consumers and make the produce more competitive. From the experiment result, we can find that the quality of the video is also good enough to reach the Visual appreciation of the standard. In another hand, this paper only proposed a kind of from one standard to another standard transcoding design. How to implement a kind of from one standard to multi standard design on video transcoding and make audio synchronization will be researched soon. And may the production will show us soon with the development of the multi market.The improved method we adopt in our paper increase the transcoding efficiency between MPEG2 and AVS. The result is :it short the encoding time and increase the efficiency with minial loss of the PSNR. It use less computation with almost the same quality of the cascaded algorithm.
