Cold rolling strip is a kind of products with a high additional value. It is a primary material of automobile, mechanical engineering, architecture, electrician, and food industry. Tandem cold mill is a highly efficient and highly qualitative production technology. Because of the large amounts equipments and complex control procedure, rolling with tension is a very important feature during cold-strip production. The precision of tension affects the rolling stability and the quality of turnoff strip. Therefore the study of tension control takes on realistic significance.This article relies on the subject of 1370 five stands tandem cold mill, studies the tension control system of mill. Firstly, we analyze the computing model of tension on theory in tandem cold rolling producing and account for controlling theory, based on these, we gained the principle of tension control by changing velocity. We particular deduce the mathematics mode of tension control system based on lots of relevant literature, domestic an oversea. Then, do lots of simulation for the mathematics mode.Afterwards, according with rolling distortion theory and movement mechanics theory, deduce mathematic model of tension between stands. Then, establish the strategies of tension control. With this model, design its normal PID regulator. Parameters of tension model change with setting of tension, specification of input, rolling speed, and so on in the tension system between stands. Because the parameters of PID control method are fixed and the parameters of object are changed, so this method is very hard to assure that tension control is very well all the time. So we must adopt corresponding improved measure in order to control tension accurately all through.Finally, aims at the shortages of normal PID control method, this article advances grey predictive control method with the mathematic model of tension between stands which have been advanced above. Design the regulator of grey predictive regulator according to changing parameters in the system. Then study the simulation. The simulation of grey predictive proves that the grey predictive regulator is better than normal tension PID regulator.
