With the rapid construction and development of Shanghai Metro in recent years, AFC (Automatic Fare Collection), as an important metro subsystem, has been widely used. Meanwhile, the host system generally adopts clustering technology due to the requirement of AFC system operating business, which mainly takes advantage of its high availability. Nowadays Shaghai Metro has a number of AFC cluster systems and each one has several nodes. It will cause large amount of time and effort if system administrators regularly monitor and check each node of all the cluster systems, which cannot avoid human omissions and also cannot guarantee the security and stability of the system. An automatic cluster monitoring system is necessary in order to ensure the reliable management of the AFC cluster system.Although the existing cluster monitoring systems at home and abroad have rich functions and good performance, they can't meet some particular requirements of the AFC cluster systems, and they still have some shortcomings as follows: 1) Most of them use C/S framework, which makes the system unable to collect the node monitoring information when the monitoring software on the node throw exceptions. 2) Especially when exception happens with no one on site, some monitoring systems already use email or SMS (Short Message Service) to alert the system administrator but it can't ensure that whether the alert information has been received correctly or not.On the basis of researching on some existing typical cluster monitoring systems as well as the architecture and operation situation of Shanghai Metro AFC system, an overall design of the AFC Cluster Monitoring Systems is described and some modules such as information collecting and SMS receiving and sending are implemented by the author.To directly against the inadequate of several typical cluster monitoring system, this paper put forward the corresponding improved: By using telnet protocol between client and server, it has realized the scheme of collecting monitoring information through communication with the nodes whose monitor software has failed to run; It designs alert system for system administrator through short message and human machine interaction rules, which will resend the alarm message when the previous short message is traced to be lost, improving the reliability of the alarm system. This paper finished the testing on the important modules such as Information Collection Module and Short Message sending and receiving Module, which verified their feasibility and functions.The AFC Cluster Monitoring System has already been in operation in monitoring serveral Shanghai metro AFC systems, which are developed and maintained by Huahong Jitong smart card system Limited Corporation in Shanghai. Practice shows that, the AFC Cluster Monitoring System can be reliable in performing monitoring and alarm function and gets the approval from the users.
