In order to achieve common household appliances remote controls, which are not information appliance, we need to design a device, that is, the appliance controller. With embedded technology developing, as well as the popularity of mobile communications equipment, the conditions to remote control home appliances have gradually matured. In this paper, the design of the wireless controllers for home appliance, based ARM9 processor chip and mobile short message service, is introduced.In hardware design, the message transceiver circuit and infrared remote control circuit are designed, based on the serial port of S3C2410 chip. In the message transceiver circuit, controller of home appliance is connected into the mobile communication network through Siemens TC35i module and SIM card, to set the relevant parameters, control home appliances running state and sent the results to the user side in the form of SMS text messages; Infrared Remote Control circuit's function is to receive the control parameters passed to the appliances, which achieve the control of appliances. In this paper, home appliances as air controllers were monitored, so the temperature measuring system is designed to detect air-conditioning work state.In software design, using embedded Linux as the operating system, the Linux kernel tailoring and transplantation, the root file system making, graphical interface transplantation were completed, and transplantation of the Boot Loader was researched; In this paper, home appliances can be controlled by selecting different parameters or the pre-set parameters, on human-computer interface, which programmed through MiniGUI programming language; In this paper , the short message codec and related AT command were introduced, in order to achieve short massage transceiver.This paper introduces the appliance controller design process, and experimental results show that the device achieves a certain degree of supervisory function. In this paper, an ordinary household electrical appliance remote control system can be realized, which not need the network rollout and the design gateways, by the simple control method, low cost, wireless communication, that is, through cell phone text messages.
