Traditional measuring instruments for testing the function of the Printed circuit board assembly have many problems, such as non-uniform test platform, long-cycle software development, test items less and data accurate low, and the data collection methods old. Based on LabVIEW8.2, for an example of Electronic Energy Meter, virtual instrument system for detecting the function of PCBA on-line is designed to simplify the test system hardware and software design, and the realization of the intelligent test system.By applying data acquisition cards, and sensors, the functional test system of circuit board based on virtual instrument is designed on LabVIEW development platform. It is a kind of virtual instrument. The top-down modular design approaches is employed for this system. A real-time sampling module is designed to sample the test signal by a subset of the full call LabVIEW function VI and the DAQ (data acquisition hardware Data Acquisition) technology. According with NI-VISA Package provides the powerful functions, it designed and implemented a the communication and control module between the PC and the control-power, that provides the basis for automated testing. Additional to this, many other modules of the system are designed, such as the system parameters setting module, power board testing module, the logic board test module, parameter measurement and display module, database management module, and the communication module for reading and writing. Finally, by using the data acquisition card PCI-6024E, the functions of this system are tested and analysis separately, and the test results show that the test system meets the testing requirements and corresponds with the technical metrics.
