With the rapid development of power electronics, all sorts of power electronic devices have been more and more widely used in the power system. The problem of harmonic current that it brings about is becoming more serious, which threaten the running of the power system in the safe, stable and economical state seriously. The harms of the harmonic current brought about by power electronics have been paid more and more attention. It has been a key research field in power electronic application technology to study the active power filters to compensate the harmonic current pollution caused by power electronic devices.Firstly, the domestic and overseas research on active power filter are introduced, the operation principle of a shunt active power filter is presented in detail. Then the harmonic detection methods and control strategies have been analysed systematically. Here, the ip-iq harmonic detection method based on instantaneous reactive power theory has been chosed for harmonic current detection. According to the fixed width hysteresis faults in hysteresis control, a novel implementation algorithm of timing contorl instantaneous operation method is proposed. This method can avoid the situation of device having higher switching frequency. Secondly, the simulation models are established by Matlab/Simulink in order to validate the correction of detection and control methods. Shunt active power filter device's hardware and software design with TMS320F2812 have been done based on simulation. Hardware and software's structure and function are described in detail. Finally, the harmonic current detection part has been carried on in the laboratory environment.The simulation results prove that active power filter can not only eliminate harmonic current effectively, but also have better dynamic compensation characteristic. The test results show that the hardware and software structure of the harmonic current detection system based on DSP is reasonable and valid, which can detect harmonics from load current validly. Theory and experimental reference is provided to the practical application of these experimental results.
