Design And Realization Of SNMP Network Performance Management System

With the expansion of the networks, the network environment is becoming more and more complicated. To make sure that the network is working effectively and regularly, an effective management system becomes more and more urgent. How to satisfy these needs in such a complicated network is becoming an important topic nowadays. One of the core parts of the network management system is the performance management system. The network performance management system needs to collect, to analyze, to store, to display data about the device, the interface, the link, and the application layer data, and finally to submit the data of potential problems to the fault management system. The performance system is one of the most important sources of raw data for many other subsystems in the network management system. On one side, the performance management system helps to discover problems as soon as they happen in the networks, on the other side these data can be used to help to organize the networks in the most effective way when engineers are designing the networks.In this thesis, I will focus on the SNMP architecture. I depicted the components of the SNMP protocols, the history of the network management technology, and specially introduced some of the performance software system in and abroad.The core of the thesis is the design and realization of a performance management system. The system is based on the SNMP network management architecture .As one of the architecture's core modules, the performance system supported the third party with interfaces. The software is based on the C/S infrastructure; VC6.0 is used for developing the server part of the system; SQL SERVER database is used to store and management the system; JAVA is used to realize the interfaces to users in the client part; web server is used to display the pictures about the data. The performance management system uses MRTG to collect data from the devices with SNMP protocol, and uses the rrdtool to store the data as well as the formation of the pictures, and uses the distributed probes to collect data in an effective way. The thesis will analyze the solution in detail, and give the interface of the system, and the core processes for the realization of system.For this performance management system, the thesis will not only analyze the resulting pictures, but also the possible usage of the data. The thesis will use the security linkage system and the corporation application-layer network management system as the two possible application modes.In the end of the thesis, the advantages and shortcomings will also be depicted and some other requirements for the future development of the system will also be given.
