In recent years, with the rapid development of the IP networks and voice technology, the traditional Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and IP networks plays an important role in the next generation network (NGN) development. As a key equipment of connecting PSTN network and IP network, the trunk gateway acquires a wide range of applications and attention. Combined with the author's research work in post-graduate stage, the master's thesis has systematically summed up the extension and implementation of trunk gateway. Its main objectives are to increase operational capabilities and improve equipment performance.The thesis includes six sections. The first part briefly introduces PSTN network, IP network and its related agreements, and then introduces the next-generation networks and their interconnection. In the end, it reaches the important role of the trunk gateway in the next generation. Trunk gateway is the bridge between the PSTN and IP network. It is responsible for the conversion of signaling and media streams between the PSTN and IP network.The second part describes the system structure, working principle and the realization program of trunk gateway, and then introduces the exploitation environment of trunk gateway. This is the basis of my research work in post-graduate stage.The third part introduces the design and implementation of three billings control in trunk gateway. Here the main implementation of the three billing styles is IP phone card billing service, IP telephone caller billing business and caller telephone number billing service (or IP address billing service). The fourth part details the design and implementation of IVR service and loopback function in trunk gateway. IVR service that is interactive voice response services, realizes a switchboard function, artificial customer service, and automatic voice report. Loopback function is increased by the particular customer requirement. It can realize call control and management from IP side user to IP side user.The fifth part describes in detail about the design flow of the No.1 signaling module and the design, implementation and testing of the load Balance on the trunk gateway. Firstly it introduces the first signaling technology and design flow, and then introduces the design and implementation of the dynamic load balancing and static load balancing, and carried out a detailed testing.The last part briefly introduces the testing tools and testing environment, and then focuses on the test items and test results, in which it carries out the functional testing and performance testing in detail to the trunk gateway.
