Designing And Implementation Of Campus Network Of Shanxi Medical University

Campus network is the intranetworking which makes it possible for the computers and the ancillary equipment within the university to operate in internet. It consists of computers, network equipment and soft wires. The campus network is an integrated application system intended to serve the purpose of educational teaching and management within the university in order to realize the exchange of distance information and resources sharing by way of WAN (Wide Area Network). It is also an infrastructure that may satisfy the needs of teaching environment of e-education; it is also an important part of the construction of IT in education and a reliable network for the students and staff members of the university to have distance education successfully. It is an essential means to realize overall quality education. To sum up, campus network embodies the modernization of technical equipment in education. It has become one of the major symbols in educational modernization.The proper application of the campus network in teaching not only changes the traditional ways of teaching models, teaching methods and teaching media, but also will promote the changes in educational concepts and ideas. Through campus network, students and teachers can have their visions broadened; students' ability in creative thinking can be well improved; their abilities of obtaining, analyzing, the and processing the information can be strengthened. Thus, they can adapt themselves well to modern society.Some criteria on campus network have been laid down by the State Ministry of Education and local educational departments. Based on the criteria, every university or college has to make its own scientific designing in detail according to its actual situation so that the designing objective of its campus network can be realized and its resources and functions can be brought into full play.In this paper, making a detailed analysis of the present situation of Shanxi Medical University we have designed and planned the campus network to satisfy its needs and development. During the designing, we also made a close study of other institutions of higher learning in this province. Based on our study and research, we calculated accurately the distributions of the commuters in the teaching buildings on the main campus, estimated possible development of the university in 3 to 5 years, and finally worked out the network topology structure which was not only practical, but could meet the requirements of future development. On the whole the designing of this network embodies the safety, stability, practicality, reliability and scalability of the campus network. We avoided the duplicate constructions of the network in order not to waste the limited resources. In the designing of the campus network, we emphasized the following factors: network technology, network structure, network equipment, network application, network safety and network management. We also put forward the constructive objectives, worked out the solutions to its safety, and made our views clear in the selections of network equipment. Since its operation, the campus network performs well and meets the requirements of the staff members and the students of Shanxi Medical University.There are main works in this text as follows:1. Present condition and need of Shanxi Medical University was concretely analyzed in details.2. Basing on investigating and reasearsing, finished the overall design of the campus net which could meet the requirement and it is posible.3. Safety threat of the campus net in Shanxi Medical University was analyzed thoroughly and brought a practical solution.4. Adjusting in deeply to try with perfect Shanxi Medical University campus network.
