Network's stability, efficient and accurate operation is extremely important with the rapid development of network technology. So, we must depend on a suite of effective network management methods to monitor and manage the network. SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) application also cannot be separated from network management. SDH network element management system needs to manage many SDH equipments. Southbound interface of the system completes the operation and data collection work. The paper discusses the design and implement of southbound interface of SDH network element management system. This paper analyzes the current network management software research and development status, simply introduces the design and implement of management system which bases on J2EE framework. Because the SDH network equipments produced by different manufacturers has different communication interfaces and regulations. In order to shield the difference between the SDH equipments, system uses southbound interface to manage equipment, transfer relevant command, supply an adapter for which equipment, and supply uniform interface for operation module. So the top design of the system can be transplanted and reusable. The emphases of this paper is how to design and implement southbound, which can shield the difference between the equipments and increase system's capability using cache and multithreading to process large amounts of data operations. The paper gives an example of how to use southbound to operation. Finally paper sums up the southbound with the advantage, defects and future direction of improvement.
