With the development of computer technology and digital imaging technology, machine vision technology has been applied in nearly all of domains that need human vision, such as science and technology, national defense, aviation and space navigation, medicine and therapies, and all fields of national economy. With the development of the platform for embedding and imaging technology in industry, the reduction of their cost and the enhancement of their real-time performance boost the rapid development in industrial vision system. The printing and dying industry is one of the most important industries which can affect the economy and people's living of the country. The detection of shading variation of cloth is very critical, because it is a main sign of clothes'quality. So machine vision in industry used to detect shading variation of fabric is significant.By making a brief description of the development and application of machine vision system in domestically and abroad, and in terms of the case of shading variation measurement in civil printing and dyeing factories, the thesis puts forward a shading variation system based on machine vision, which adopts high-powered multicolor industrial camera. The transmission of larger number of data and command parameters are passed by Ethernet, which solves the bandwidth problem and the real-time requirement satisfactorily. The motion control board for camera based on DSP and CPLD is used to control alternating current servo. In the future, the system will reduce the labor cost and improve the quality and speed of coloring cloths, which will enhance the managements of product's quality transparent and heighten the competitive capacity in the market.After expounding the principle of shading variation, the thesis introduces some formulas for shading variation, and puts forward the formula that it adopts. The thesis designs the formula for the shading variation measurement system based on machine vision, and introduces the illumination system, image sensor and the processor of motion control board. According to the function achieved by this system, the thesis discusses the designs of application program on PC and motion control board of camera, analyses the hardware and software part of the DSP and CPLD system of the board, which achieves the speedup and slowdown of camera on the machine platform and the exposure time of camera. In the end, according to the features of the shading variation measurement system, the thesis brings forward the improved suggestions.
