Coal mine safety problem has been an important issue, which is closely related to coal production and maintaining a sustained and healthy development of coal industry. Higher requirements were put forward to coal mine safety research work, and we need to take a further research for prevention and control technology of coal mine natural disaster.In this paper, a detailed research and analysis was carried out for coal mine safety monitoring system status and development prospects. Combined with the particularity of coal mine environment, a safe and reliable CAN bus was used to achieve underground data transmission, and GPRS wireless transmission manner was used to achieve ground data transmission.For the lack of response to the existing gas emission prediction in terms of the geological conditions change of the working face, the coal mine safety monitoring and prediction system based on BP neural network was designed, which integrated consideration of other factors and provided a new idea for the prediction of gas emission anomaly. At the same time the simulations were carried out by using MATLAB.The emphasis of the hardware design focused on the smart sub-station. There are some detailed introductions of the micro-controller module, CAN communication module, power and reset, LCD display, alarm and storage module in this paper. Through the research of the existing smart sub-station of monitoring system, the dual-core smart sub-station was designed, which is based on ARM microprocessor LPC2119 and 51 microprocessors P87C591. The embedded CAN controller module was implemented to achieve CAN communication。Combined with hardware design, software was designed, which based onμC/OS-II operating system. With the actual role of each module, the priorities of mission were distributed, and the missions design process of the sub-station was introduced. In the final discussed the CAN bus arbitration 29bit identifier, suitable application layer protocol was worked out for the coal mine monitoring system.
