A Study Of The Management Approaches Of China's Local News Websites' Editor Performance Evaluation

Local news websites is a feature in the field of the news media and network media in China. In October 1st, 2002, the official opening of the "China Tibet Information Network", marked China's 31 mainland provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities have their own news sites, and these local news websites are important forces in the area of the news media, known as the "traditional media websites to the second level"(Gao Gang, Peng Lan). At present, most of the researches in the field concerned about the survival models of local news website, methods of operation, profits, construction and development, only a small number of articles were related to channel site evaluation standards and the management of editor performance evaluation.In the current researches of network editors, few of them concerned about the management of editor performance evaluation. But in reality, the network editorial team is continually developing and growing. The feature of network media—combined with interviewing, editing and publishing—strengthens the role of editors as gatekeepers and "quasi-media communicators" to a great extent. Thus, the network editors are put in a significant position in the process of dissemination.The subjects in this paper are editors from China's 117 local news websites (data collection time for 2007). According to discussion of new media features of the network, the rules of network editors and human resources management skills of network, the author is in attempt to explore suitable management approach for China's local news website editor performance evaluation, and make it workable and suitable to feedback, meanwhile promote China's network media's healthy and orderly development and improve the abilities of the local news business reporters and editors. At the same time, this research bases on network editor performance evaluation management approach in the past of macro-range, and further relates to a news site or local news websites of micro-scope, combining the characteristics of local news websites, to make the approach more practical.The future studies of the management of local news website editors, first of all is to be more systematical, which will not only establish their own disciplines theoretical framework, but also will form a complete set of practical operation of the process. At the same time, for different regions and under different conditions, local news websites should also study and formulate correspondent editor management approaches, and complementarily develop with human resources management and other subjects. Second, in practice, focus on investigations and studies, and pay attention to local experience and feedback through various channels, and take account of schools in training and career planning, in order to form a multi-angle intervention and a virtuous circle, which will be gradually improved and promoted to the whole society.
