In recent years, Chinese railway has gone through the technical improvements on heavy haul traffic, electrification and conventional line updation to the speed-rail and Passenger Dedicated Line (PDL). Da-Qin railway is the first double-track electrified railway in China, which combined the LOCOTROL and GSM-R techniques together. Da-Qin railway transported LOCOTROL information by GSM-R network for the first time in the world. This technology successfully applied in 4×5000 tons heavy-duty train, solved the key issues of train to train communication distances limitation, provide a strong protection for transportation coal. GSM-R network has to be optimized after its operation, through adjustment of parameters to reach the best service state of the network, ensure the safety and order of railway traffic.Because of the particularity of rail transportation, the optimization of GSM-R network is of great importance. This thesis frist introduces the features of GSM-R network and the differences between GSM-R and GSM network optimization, second illustrates the network architecture and its applications in Da-Qin railway, then summarized network optimization procedures, such as systematic investigation, data sampling and analysis, problem locating, optimization scheme and implementation. Through the analysis and comparision of the actual signaling procedure on Abis, A, PRI interface, the communication interruption can be categarized into five groups: hand-over failed, radio link failure, MSC temporal failure, MS originated normal call clearing and AN disconnection, then with parameters as timer, hand-over threshold and frequency planning considered, the cases of communication interruption can be found. Finally, all these previous work formed the optimization report.This thesis analyzed and located the communication problems based on signaling procedures and Parameter setting, provided an effective scheme to the network optimization of Da-Qin Railway.
