Computer vision technology applied in Intelligent Transportation System has become a new trend of development. Parking Guidance System is an important branch of Intelligent Transportation Systems. Therefore, how to use computer vision technology applied in Parking Guidance System has become a very meaningful and challenging task. This paper introduces the omni-directional vision technology which has advantage of wide monitoring range, vast information capacity, and small space constraint, to study a kind of parking guidance system based on omni-directional vision.The paper takes parking information as main line, which is the core of parking guidance system based on omni-directional vision, to study following problems: how to collect parking lot video information, how to identify occupancy of parking space, how to guide driver in the parking lot, and how to query and gather parking lot statistics information. The main research is summarized as follows:1. Applied the Omni-Directional Vision Sensor (ODVS) which is developed independently by our own laboratory to collect the parking lot video information, and constructed an embedded video server to establish a remote platform for parking lot video information collection.2. Designed a kind of parking space video detection algorithm based region block model to automatic identify the occupancy of parking space by analyzing the advantage and disadvantage of the current parking space video detection algorithm.3. Studied the subject of shortest parking path search based on A-Star algorithm, and combined the database and information display device to design a shortest path parking guidance model in the parking lot.4. Proposed a kind of urban digit transportation code scheme to query and gather parking lot statistics information from different region perspective.5. Used Java to design and realize the parking guidance system prototype, experimented the parking space detection under different circumstance, simulated the shortest parking path search, tested the system detection accuracy and robustness, and analyzed the experimental results.This paper has studied several key technologies about the application of omni-directional vision technology in Parking Guidance System, but there is still a certain distance to the practical application of our research. Hoped that our research would be able to play the reference role to the afterward researchers.
