Applied Research Of Open Source OLAP Technology In The Multimedia Learning System

With the rapid development of database and network technology., the network education is playing an increasingly important role in the promotion of distance education. Compared to other types of education, network education owns great advantages in the educational resources' digitalization. Not only it can provide students with rich type educational resources, the network education can record almost all the information generated during students' online learning process, which are helpful in analyzing students' learning condition. Unfortunately, not received in-depth analysis and mining, these records are presented in the form of a simple summary form in many cases.On-line analytical processing (OLAP) is a multi-dimensional decision-support tools based on data warehouse, and has been widely used in telecommunications and financial fields which have a good background of information technology. This article paid attention on study of the in-depth analysis of online learning records, applied the OLAP and data warehouse technologies in the multi-dimensional analysis and processing of learning records, and tried to provide decision-supporting information for the teaching management.Through the study of OLAP technology, and the software development in the multi-media learning system, the author designs and implements a light-weighted OLAP web application based on open source frameworks. With the use of open-source OLAP engine Mondrian, present-tier framework JPivot, and the establishment of a star data cube, this system realizes the multi-dimensional analysis of students' online learning information in different region, time and subject dimensions. It introduces the aids information for the design of teaching plan, and lays a good foundation for the further study of OLAP system in network education.
