Substation is an important part of the power system, it has great significance to ensure the reliability of power supply. The Power System has been striving to upgrade the stability and security level of the Power Grid, one of the most important measures that have been taking is training program for different kinds of working stuffs. To enhance the skills of staffs, we need establishing training institutions and developing a variety of training systems.According to the records and dates form the authority, it is convicted that Simulation Training System has achieve the goal in some content. So far, the Training System is mainly in form of two-dimensional graphics system, such as the Graphics Management System, although training goals can be achieved, the training is relatively monotonous and lack of interaction. Teaching methods through multi-media training video also lack interaction, the training result is not satisfied.With the development of the Grid, power system is becoming more and more complicated. These traditional models are far from meeting the requirements of the development. As a result, new forms of training system come into being, one of them is VR-Based Three-dimensional Substation Training System. The paper mainly focuses on:1) Analyzing the characteristics of the 500 kV World Expo Underground Substation, according to that, the development of simulation training system is divided into two parts: two-dimensional simulation training platform and three-dimensional simulation platform. The paper mainly focuses on the development of three-dimensional simulation platform. With a clear understanding of three-dimensional simulation platform functions, three-dimensional simulation platform design objectives is established, including software framework, software function modules, etc.2) Researching the development process of virtual distributed simulation of environment technologies, adapts HLA-Structure model, which is standardized, reusable, easy to extend, to form the framework of the simulation system.3) Researching the visualization technologies of three-dimensional virtual environment, including the establishment of extensible object collection and the organization of virtual scene. Objects in the system have tridimensional, electrical, operational and data-interface characteristics. Based on the HLA-Structure, equipments in the substation are modeled to establish the library which is modifiable. Objects in the scene are organized in accordance with Hierarchical Tree and DAG principle, the underground substation is vividly reproduced and organized in accordance with the actual space constraints and the layout of the substation environment. 3D Studio Max is used as a modeling tool. The running mode achieves wandering, equipment operations, equipment inspections, equipment faults dealing functions in the three-dimensional simulation platform, while the extended mode makes three-dimensional simulation platform scalable and maintainable.4) Realized the real-time interaction between three-dimensional simulation platform and two-dimensional simulation platform, by sharing database of the three-dimensional simulation platform with the two-dimensional simulation platform. Based on the analysis of the functions of the simulation training system, the data used to support simulation training systems is divided into the following types: basic data, data to describe equipment anomalies, data to describe equipment operation and data to support system running. Developing database application program and using ODBC as a bridge to share and transmit data between heterogeneous platforms, by using the data shared and transmitted the Substation Training system is interactive.5) Doing functional test and performance test. Testing the functional modules Testing the occupancy rate of the CPU and the operating efficiency and stability of the three-dimensional simulation platform under different running mode.6) At last, the paper summarizes the results of the study and puts forward the directions of future study.
