The rapid economic development of China has led to severe air pollution. Air pollution control currently is an urgent task. At present, spatial information technology, visualization and GIS have been integrated to support the air pollution management, query, analysis and display, but there are still some limitations. For example, data acquisition of air pollution sources in real-time and the virtual representation of the natural world, have no practical solutions. With the ideas of interdisciplinary, air pollution sources data acquisition by Java mobile phone and three-dimensional visualization have been studied. Firstly, the overall framework and function of the system have been designed, and thus the function of data acquisition in the Java mobile phone terminal have been developed and the major methods of three-dimensional visualization of air pollution based on OSG have been elaborated. Finally, with an application case the prototype system has been tested. It is shown that the theory and technology in the thesis is feasible and effective. The major work in the thesis as followed:1) In the system, the functions of mobile terminals are designed. The functions of a mobile phone, including the data acquisition module, data transmission modules, GPS modules, as well as interaction module, have also been designed and achieved by the J2ME programming language in the paper.2) The key problems of three-dimensional visualization for air pollution have been discussed in detail. The characteristics of the programming language OSG is introduced. It also elaborates upon the major methods of building virtual geographic scenes and three-dimensional terrain scenes based on OSG, the visualization of air pollution source and optimization of real-time efficiency based on particle system.3) A prototype system for three-dimensional visualization has been developed in the Pearl River Delta Region. The prototype system supports some basic scene navigation functionalities and the expression of three-dimensional visualization for air pollution source in the virtual geographic scenes with the air pollution data. The prototype system has been tested in the Pearl River Delta Region. The experimental results prove that the scheme addressed in the thesis is effective and feasible.
