Intelligent transportation system is the most intensive field of high-tech application in the aftermath of aeronautics & astronautics and military field. In the premise of theoretical model study of critical infrastructure, it comprehensively applies advanced information technology, data communication technology, electronic control technology and computer processing techniques to ground traffic management system, thereby creating a real-time, accurate, efficient, large-scale, and omni-directional role-playing transportation management system . Intelligent transportation system achieves the organic integration and coordinated development of people, vehicles, and roads, thus fully embodying the maximization of economic, social and ecological benefits and achieving the sustainability of transport development.Vehicle information detection is not only an important component of the intelligent transportation system, but also the basis and key technology of researching the intelligent transportation system. Through the information processing of various sensors, it obtains the vehicle speed, identifies models, makes statistics of traffic, road occupancy rate, and other traffic information. As first-hand data of intelligent transportation system, the accuracy and real-time of the information have direct impact on the accuracy of intelligent transportation system.With the characteristics of its low-power, low-cost ,distribution and self-organization ,wireless sensor network brings about an innovation, greatly upgrades the speed of vehicle information collection and coverage, elevates the level of intelligent acquisition, and promotes the development of intelligent transportation.In this paper, in-depth analysis of application requirements and existing technology foundation. A wireless network vehicle detection system based on the magnetoresistive sensor was designed. Vehicles detection algorithm based on the average strength of magnetic field interference was proposed, by way of the identification of vehicles through the extraction of features, the use of classifiers for classification of vehicles. And the algorithm proved effective. Proposed for the system of wireless network protocol, a better solution to the time synchronization, and other issues to avoid conflict. The subject completed a sensor node hardware design and control software design. After field testing to achieve the desired objectives.The system can count vehicles, vehicle identification, speed of measurement and other functions. Road Traffic measured in the result analysis shows that the high rate of recognition accuracy, greater application value. But the system there are still a number of shortcomings. There are many worthy of study and improvement. The need for follow-up work to study and improve.
