Along with population pressure enlargement, urban rail transportation is becoming important means to deal with urban traffic congestion. Train control system is the core to guarantee safety and efficiency of rail transportation. Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) system is widely used in many big city's rail transportation because of its advantages in stability, safety, message capacity and high positioning accuracy. But the technology and equipment is mainly provided by the overseas manufacturer and relatively CBTC research level was still low in China. So it is urgently needed to develop our system which has the proprietary intellectual property rights.Because the research work on CBTC not only needs massive experiments, consumes manpower, physical resource and the time, but also has certain risk, it is becoming world mutual recognition to introduce computer simulation technology to the research of CBTC. The simulation and test technology based on virtual reality became the important aspect of computer simulation in train control system because it could simulate and reappear real scene and was good at interaction. Meanwhile along with the introduction of distributed simulation technique, it has solved many difficult problems in complex object simulation like multi-computers, multi-objects and remote places. And it has become a indispensable part in CBTC simulation and test platform. This paper unifies the virtual reality technology and the distributed simulation and then discusses and analyzes distributed virtual reality simulation theory. And the main study in this paper is the key technology in simulation of the train control system and this technology was applied in CBTC simulation and test system taking the Dalian express rail line NO.3 as the background. The main research content in this paper is as follows: The concept of virtual reality was first introduced, then based on this the distributed virtual reality simulation technology was introduced, include its characteristic, structure, related technique as well as development and model applications. And this paper make further discussion about HLA(High Level Architecture) and analyzes its characteristic, structure and its superiority. According to the analysis result, the distributional simulation module of Vega was chose as development tool in this paper. Then the paper researches on the theory and the key technology of distributed virtual reality like modeling, the movement of models, model database optimization and simulation of natural phenomena and combine it with simulation of CBTC train control system. The distributed virtual reality simulation system of Dalian express rail line no.3 was designed and developed with software MultiGen Creator and Vega. The system realized simulation of train movement, virtual PSD, virtual center monitoring system and simulation of natural phenomena. The system provided a good sense of reality, immersion and smooth picture output and man-machine contact surface which was convenient and friendly. The paper solved some problems in formerly system like extensibility; optimization of the model database and sole simulation scene and so on.
