Trunk Tester is equipment that is used to test trunk transmission equipment of the communications system. The main work of the trunk transmission equipment is to code and decode the information, and it is an indispensable and important component of the communication system. However, at present, there is no suitable trunk tester that could adapt to major network transmission equipment interfaces, during the production, testing, inspection, acceptance and the process of routine maintenance of the trunk transmission equipment. So it is difficult to carry out its functionality and performance tests quickly and accurately.The software and hardware of Trunk Tester that is described in this article, is developmented basing on the combination between DSP and FPGA. It simulates the application environment of trunk transmission equipment, test the transmission bit error rate, the success rate of synchronization, status of coding and decoding, transmission delay, and complete the test of interface and protocol of the trunk transmission equipment. The Trunk Tester use touch-screen to do the human-computer interaction. It can show real-time test results, and perform quick and accurate test. The Trunk Tester can also set the different parameters of the interface, in order to meet a wide range of network lines testing requirements, and can be widely used in trunk transmission equipment testing, inspection, and fault location of maintenance machine.This paper introduces the whole design of the Trunk Tester, the selection of core processor, and completed the human-computer interaction part of the Trunk Tester. Design 104 touch screen display interface pictures, download the pictures to the Flash of touch screen to storage them, and use DSP-based C-language programming to complete the display and switch of the pictures, output test datas, and show them on the touch screen. Complete the serial communication between DSP and the touch screen, and the human-computer interaction function of the Trunk Tester.
