The touch screen technology is the key to the future of the mobile technology industry. People abandoned the use of stylus on the touch screen with the development of the touch screen technology. Users prefer to complete the interaction task by touching virtual buttons directly with their own fingers. It is an important task for interactive systems to enable users to accurately access opration targets of the interface by fingers.Manipulating touch screen mobile with fingers is usually based on four fingers and the palm as the basis and operated with the thumb. Because of the screen size and the movement restrictions of thumb, there are the following problems by useing the thumb to control interface targets:target accessibility issues, coverage issues and location ambiguity issues. To solve the above problems, this article conducts in-depth study from the biomechanics, human-computer interaction and software engineering aspects. I design and inplement the target acquisition method which suit for the thumb control based on analysising the characteristics of user's interactive behavior.The following are the main work in this article:(1) It analyzed the user's behavior characteristics as he use thumb to acquire the targets on the interface according to the biomechanical characteristics of the hand and the interaction task.(2) According to user's target acquisition features as he operate touch-screen phone with one hand, it proposed an method that the thumb motion based key extraction of virtual keyboard to resolve the coverage issues and location ambiguity issues caused by big thumb. And it proposed the image target control method based on sliding technology to solve the target accessibility issues.(3) According to user's target acquisition features as he operate touch-screen phone with both hands, it impletmented for switching interface layout automatically by using gravity sensing principle. This method increased the operating room for two-handed thumb control.(4) The target acquisition method was successfully applied to a research and design project of the touch-screen mobile by using MTK platform, which belong to a solutions company in Shenzhen. And users can complete the interaction task through touch operation on the phone without a physical keyboard and stylus. The application resulted in the show that the target acquisition method proposed by this paper had improved text input speed and accuracy. Beside of these, the mehod has reduced the complexity of the image browsing task and enhanced the mobile phone's adaptability in a variety of the operating environment.
