With the development of China, some western mainstream medias began to focus on China. It makes sense to know China's image in foreign countries'mainstream medias, and master the characters and rules of China-related reports for improving the system of China's international communication, as well as building a fine national image.Based on the result of other scholars'study, this paper adopts both quantitative study and qualitative investigation, content analysis and other method to study the China-related reports in New York Times in 2008, analyze the methods, characters and rules of China-related reports in America's mainstream medias, and then summarize New York Times'attitude towards China. This paper further analysis the significance and some rules of them. For example, it points out some problems in China-related reports: the contents are selective and with the bias of ideology; views are hidden in the facts; the important events of China are overall reported and the negative effects are stressed, to mention a few. China-related reports in America are restricted by ideology, the concept of journalism and communication, the difference between west and east culture, and our own factors. We should positively know China-related reports in America, and find the revelation to China's international communication system, then it could help us to fight for an objective and equal communication position, and to build a good national image of China.
