With the development of computer technology, network technology and microelectronic technology, the embedded system has been widely used in various of fields. Currently. ARM-based and FPGA-based system has become the hot spot in current embedded system reseach area, and the relevant researches require the support of a powerful development platform. So, it is significant and meaningful to design and research the ARM-based and FPGA-based development platform.This paper designs one PXA270-based ARM development platform and one Virtex5-based FPGA development platform, and they mainly focus on the problem of power management, interface design, board-level timing. We complete the system schematic and PCB design in PADS tools, and by means of running the operating system onto the platform and loading executable procedures, we verify the overall functionality of the platform successfully.The characteristics of this paper are as follows:(1) Combine the power management unit of PXA270 processor with the MAX1586A integrated power management chip, the dynamic power management of PXA270 development platform has been accomplished, and make the power consumption been reduced effectively.(2) Implement the FF/BT/STUART, USB Host/Client, SD/MMC, AC 97, PCMCIA/CF, LCD and VGA interfaces, and the platform will have a better performance of flexibility and versatility for future research.(3) Simulate and analyze the reflection, crosstalk, board-level timing in PCB design process, give out the routing constraints method to improve the system's reliability, more effectively.
