The power flow solution is the basis of design and control of power system. Before the computer being invented, the calculation of power flow is a very time-consuming work. With the emergence and development of the computer, the officers engaged in the power industry applied the computer to calculation of the power flow. With help of computer, more accurate result of power flow can be got easily. In addition, the biggest advantage of application of computer is that Once written procedures, as long as the importation of raw data, can be calculated, excellent compatibility And extremely convenient.Firstly, the history of algoritnm of power flow is summarized in this paper. Then the power flow model of P-Q decoupled method is discussed detailed. According to the characteristic of power system, the pure mathematical power flow algorithm - Newton method is advanced. This improved algorithm is P-Q decoupled method. The P-Q de-coupled method is more excellent than Newton method in aspecets of speed and convergence.In order to improve the efficiency of powe flow algorithm, the application of sparse technology to power flow is researched in this paper according to the characteristic of power system. Considering the the sparse characteristic of power grid equation set, the unnecessary calculating steps are avoid in the sparse technology in order to improve the efficiency of algorithm. In all, this technology includs two parts: the one is sparse storage, the other is application of sparse calculation technology. The substance of sparae storage is only storaging nonzero elements and their information of searching. The sparse calculation technology is used to deal with the condition that only amall quantity nonzero elements are in the right vector of linger equation set. Though very simple, this technology is very successful in decressing calculated amount and EMS memory consuming of program.At last, a soft of power flow analysis is developed with c language. Then this soft is applied to four IEEE recommend classical power systems. The results testify that this soft with convenient user interface is efficient.
