Nowadays non-modeling lens-edger is widely used in domestic glasses industry. Non-modeling lens-edger is divided into mechanical probe contact-type and non contact-type. Because of contact between probe and work piece, work piece will be scratched and probe will be abraded. As the development of photoelectrical device technology, it provides strong support for the research and development of lens-edger and improving the quality and efficiency of lens manufacturing. In this article, edge detection system of lens based on linear array CCD is studied.The charge coupled device(CCD) is a device of the formation of image of semiconductor, which can shift,store, transmission and deal with the picture of the scenery in the form of photoelectric signal with the aid of the essential optical system and suitable driving circuit. In the past 20 years, the CCD technology is applied in military and civil fields widely. The application of measuring and monitoring are more and more popular especially with the improvement of the industrial automation and need of the industry condition.By analysis of the non modeling lens-edging equipment used in domestic and abroad, this paper presents edge detection system of lens based on linear array CCD. Upper computer and lower computer of measuring system are designed. Mainly finished tasks:1) Circle scanning method with core device CCD is designed.2) Hardware of lower computer is finished. It includes choices of devices, design of light source module, driving circuit of CCD and step-motor, amplifying circuit of CCD signal and serial port circuit.3) Compiling software of upper computer. Including driving program of CCD and motor, program of signal processing and communication program of data.4) Software of upper computer is realized. That includes receiving and delivering of serial data, display and further processing of graphic.5) Solve recognition problems of keyhole.Edge detection system of lens with core device of linear array CCD is proved to be low-cost. This system can successfully finish scanning task. Lens border can be displayed on user interface accurately with the help of software of upper computer.
