In this paper, we research and develop an intelligent multi-media terminal system with ARM-based embedded hardware platform and Linux operating system, which uses graphics MiniGUI development libraries and Touch Panel input, providing the audio decoding, video decoding, picture browsing, text browser, such as a variety of functions. System has a friendly user interface appearance, and we can easily select files, just like play, pause, stop operations.In this paper, the ARM architecture is analyzed in first. A detailed study of embedded Linux operating system transplant technology on the ARM9 microprocessor was implemented, including cross-compile environment set up , transplantation of BootLoader program , modification and customization of embedded Linux kernel, setting up root file system. At last we accomplish the transplant of embedded Linux onto the Samsung 2410 development board.Because of the multimedia terminal is for the general consumer, a well-designed user interface is essential。the paper analyze the GUI message-based affairs handle mechanism deeply, adapting the multi -threaded program design methods, achieve the result of sound and video simultaneously decoding and playing in real-time, with the interactive multi-window user operation.A wide range of audio and video format support is the focus of the terminal would need to consider .in this paper, we deeply research a powerful open source decoder library:FFMPEG , implement the transplant and MPEG4, H.264 decoding on this platform. To 3GP format as example ,an method of express analysis of audio and video file format through the binary file is provided. This method has laid a good foundation for the support of multiple audio and video format.At the same time, this paper presents a study and application of audio and video encapsulation format based on embedded environment, the format adopt the customized protocol , with the functions of encryption to protect audio and video resources, as an example to 3GP format to achieve a custom format encodes change.
