Video surveillance system is an integrated system including computer technology,the communication technology and digital video technology. With its superior performance and wide application,it plays a more and more important role in People's Daily life.However, the traditional video monitoring system exist some fault,for example structure is complex,stability and reliability is not high,the price is expensive and the transmission distance obviously constrained.Therefore,based on the study of the current video monitoring system,this paper designsa video monitoring system based on ARM and embedded of Linux,and realizesmonitoring video transmission based on WLAN mesh network.First of all,author designs the whole system, constructs the software and hardware platform. System hardware platform using SamSung company's S3C2410 microprocessor,ARM embedded end is the video processing terminals while PC is the terminal of conformity and play.With the transplant of Bootloader,Linux kernel and root filesystem,embedded development platform is completed. Secondly,the paper realize the core of the system function of the application software, complete the development and transplantation of USB camera and WLAN network card driver;Using API of Video for Linux realizes video collection;Design and realized the mpeg-4 video compression;Adopted the RTP protocol as video data transfer protocol, and realized video's real-time transmission in WLAN;Designed a video data decoding and playing terminal software with VC++and SOCKET programming.In the case of realizing the transmission in WLAN,this paper complete the expansion of the scope of video surveillancethe with the wireless mesh network.Wireless Mesh Network is a multi-hop,self-organizing and self-healing wireless network structure,and a high-capacity, high-speed distributed network.It is ideal for wireless video transmission.Finally,we completed the testing and analysis of system performance, test results show that MPEG-4 greatly reduce the amount of data compareing with JPEG.In addition,in the wireless mesh network,the network performance of MPEG-4 video transmission with RTP protocol was tested.
