| In this internet times,the sports websites have become an important platform for the sports fans to know more about the sports world. A related statistics shows that about 8,261 sports websites had been set up around China (not including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) by October, 2007, 3,494 of which own their independent domain name accounting for 42.3% of all sports websites. By providing sports news and related services, the sports websites present a wonderful sports world on the net and have deeply changed the people's daily entertainment lives. As the number rises and the importance enhanced, the production quality of the sports websites and their future developing trends turn out to be a new focus of people's attention.By the methods of literature reviewing, observing ,comparative analysis and mathematical statistics, the paper carries out a research on the two representative comprehensive sports websites - "www.sports.cn" and "www.espn.go.com", respectively of China and America. Adopting the method of observing, the author knows about the current status of the designing styles, contents and service functions of the two websites. Through the method of comparative analysis, the author sums up the features of the two websites, on the basis of which the author analyzes the causes leading to the differences between them.The conclusions drawn from observation and comparative analyses are as follows: The two websites have a similar structure, but totally different webpage styles; They share the same way to divide the information with contents of the same kind obtaining different attentions, and both of the websites own their characteristic channels or programs. As network media, they still put news production on top of their work; however, their reports focus on different sports events. Also, their application of the network reporting means varies. Last but not least, the two websites provide nearly the same kinds of services, but the qualities are of different levels.On the basis of the current status of www.sports.cn and absorbing the valuable experience of www.espn.go.com, the author puts forward the following suggestions for www.sports.cn: to keep the characteristics of its own and perfect itself in an all-round way on the current basis, combining the construction of the digital sports platform for the country and the development of itself together; to strengthen the sports atmosphere of the website and make full use of the "golden area" of web-pages; to work out a better way to set the channels and programs pursuant to the click rate, the needs for promotion and the valuable experience in information division from both home and abroad; to rise the number of journalists and editors to strengthen its news reporting; to put importance on the news comments by senior commentators and on the technical statistics, in order to enhance the professional standards and credibility of reporting; to develop the video reports both in quantity and quality; to broaden the horizon of its coverage. to put more emphasis on pop sports as well as physical training at school; to strengthen the web services, fulfill the service functions and raise the quality of the service;to enhance the cooperation with traditional media and make full use of their resources. |
