Dispersion refers to the optical signals of different frequencies in the transmission medium cause the separation of phenomena by different group velocities. The essence of this phenomenon is that the interaction of a bunch of electromagnetic waves and dielectric bound electron,the medium response usually associated with frequency of wave.This is reflected in the frequency dependence of the refractive index.This relationship is called fiber dispersion character.Fiber dispersion in transmission will make the optical pulse broadening in time domain,reducing intensity,resulting in increased bit error of communication system,limiting the transmission distance without repeaters.At present,the dispersion compensation fiber is now one of the main solution of 2.5G and 10G commercial backbone optical fiber communication.The proportion is about more than 80%.However,due to the method can not meet the higher rate and greater bandwidth in communication system in the polarization mode dispersion and accuracy,for example 40G bandwidth backbone,not to mention the future of 100G system.Therefore,dispersion compensation fiber is gradually being phased out by Bragg grating.However the manufacture technology of fiber is very mature,low-cost. If we can solve the problem of polarization mode,then the building in the forthcoming 40G system will reduce the system cost greatly.This paper introduces relative principles the of dispersion compensation fiber module,then introduced structure of the principle and optical waveguide transmission principle of the four-port optical passive device,finally,simulate and actual test the entire module.
