With the continuous improvement of the transmission capacity of the optical fiber communication system,the polarization mode dispersion in the single mode fiber is becoming more and more prominent.The pulse width of the digital signal caused by the polarization mode dispersion(PMD)causes the Inter-code crosstalk of the transmission signal,which seriously affects the signal quality.Because of the stochastic variation of PMD over time,it has statistical characteristics,which puts forward higher requirements for PMD compensation technology.The main work in this article includes:1.The principle and measurement method of polarization mode dispersion(PMD)are studied in detail.Experimental measurements of all kinds of optical fibers are carried out,and polarization mode dispersion data are obtained,which are in agreement with the measured values of standard instruments.2.A dynamic polarization mode dispersion measurement method controlled by Labview program is designed to measure the long period of the polarization mode dispersion measurement of optical fiber polarization mode dispersion and the measurement steps are complicated.The Poincare sphere method is improved,and the rapid automatic measurement of polarization mode dispersion is realized,and the accuracy and precision of the measurement are improved up to 0.1 ps/?km.3.To realize the polarization mode dispersion compensation based on the principal state transmission method,an experimental system is designed to produce a stable polarization main state,in which the polarization principal state system makes the optical signal propagate in the direction of the polarization main state of the optical fiber,and the polarization state stabilization system enables the optical signal to eliminate the environmental interference in the transmission process.The stable propagation of optical signal in the direction of polarization principal state is realized.Experimental results show that the system can effectively suppress polarization mode dispersion effect in optical fibers.
