With the fast development of semiconductor technique,communication technology and large-scale integration,the design idea and method of intellectual instrument is experiencing a revolutionary change.The new-style intellectual instrument bases on computer,communication and control technology.It contains intellectual measurement and control functions,user-friendly human-computer interaction interface and multiple peripheral equipment interfaces.The appearance of SOPC technology provides a new solution for designing intellectual instruments. The adoption of SOPC in designing intellectual instruments is able to solve the problems which appear in regular implementations,such as lack in integration, functionality,flexibility.This paper develops a system of intellectual instrument based on SOPC by using its characteristics,such as hardware and software co-design and in-system programmable。This system includes two main pars:human-computer interaction and high speed data acquisition,which are also the main functions in other intellectual instruments.This paper introduces the definition,developments,characteristics and configuration of an intellectual instrument in the beginning.After a presentation of the project scheme of the intellectual instrument system based on SOPC,this paper expounds the main parts of both software and hardware platform.Firstly,this paper suggests a design method aimed at LCD controller IP core which is based on NiosⅡCPU.The LCD controller implements the hardware acceleration in the process of reading frame buffer by using an Avalon master port.The IP core is programmed based on parameter concept,aimed at regular LCD screen.In this way the reusability of the controller improved obviously.This paper uses the HAL concept which is suggested by Altera Inc to develop the interface driver of standard RS232 and PS2 port.So it is convenient to import the peripheral equipment such as keyboard and mouse.Based on the discussions of the characteristics and requirements of intellectual instrument oriented GUI system,this paper compiles the corresponding GUI libraries in HAL.At last,this paper works over the interrupt and DMA transfer theory based on NiosⅡ.The high speed data acquisition interface is developed based on the former research.By the way,this paper compares the data transfer efficiency between two methods by building the hardware platform. This paper has also tested the main modules of the system by using the DE1 development board suggested by Altera Inc.The testing results suggest the following evidences:The LCD display module in the system works well,The GUI libraries are fit for the designation of the human-computer interaction interface.The peripheral inputs such as keyboard and mouse are implemented perfectly by using RS-232 and PS2 port.Finally,this paper implements an application of Semiconductor Tube Characteristic Curve Graphic Instrument.The practical usage proves the method which is suggested in this paper has a strong currency and practicality.
