In 1962, the first semiconductor laser was born, but the luminesce characteristicwas inferior. After 20 years, it had been consummated. Because of numerous merits, thesemiconductor laser has being applied more and more extensively. But the poor outputbeam quality of the edge-emitting semiconductor Laser limits its further applications. How to improve the quality of the edge-emitting semiconductor laser beam becomes ahot spot problem. Although the research organ in the international have made manyresearches and got abundant achievement, the work of the beam shaping is not success. There are two kinds of techniques to improve the beam quality of the LD. The firstone is to alter the beam quality internally, such as adding external cavity to the LD oroptimizing the structure of the LD cavity. The second one is to improve the beamquality exteriorly;the common method is to add optical elements in front of the laserbeam. In this thesis, I sum up the achievement of the beam shaping in recent years, andplan to shape the laser beam with unspherical surface lens: first we collimation thesemiconductor laser beam with hyperboloid-cylinder lens and then condense thecollimation beam with ellipse-cylinder lens, which is a scheme to shape the semicond-uctor laser beam. In the paper, both the theory analysis and experiment have beendiscussed .The thesis includes six parts. The first chapter introduces the development, theapplication and the classification of the semiconductor lasers. The second part of thethesis discusses the beam characteristic of the semiconductor and the basic theory. Theformer diode laser beam control techniques are discussed in the third second chapter. The theory analysis which is about the collimation principle of the hyperboloid-cylinderlens and the condensation principle of the ellipse-cylinder lens is contained in the fourthchapter, and the design of these tow kinds of shaping lenses is introduced too. Thefollowing chapter mainly discuss the collimation experiment and the error analysis ofthe effect on the ellipse-cylinder lens. In addition, the conclusion is made in the finalchapter.
