With the rapid development of IP technology, the broadband metropolitan area networks tend to provide multiple services and have multiple networks converged. As the platform for NGN, VPN and other newly-emerging value-added services, the reliability of broadband metropolitan area network is required to meet the telecom-level standards of fault recovery time is usually 1-2 seconds (based on different network size), packet loss rate of less than 0.01%, the network achieved 99.999 percent availability. To achieve such a reliability requirement, we need research on the technology on Broadband MAN network from the network architecture, routing protocols,etc.The impact on the reliability of broadband metropolitan area network are found out based on the Taizhou Telecom Broadband Metropolitan Area Network's actual situation, and the technology of improve the reliability of MAN network,suh as fast fault detection, Graceful Restart, virtual routing redundancy protection, multicast load balancing are analyzed, and a simple method to deploy these technology and test methods are discussed.After these, the conclusion is obtained that through the rational deployment of these technology,such as rapid fault detection, Graceful Restart, the protection of the virtual routing redundancy, multicast load balancing, etc., the broadband MAN network's reliability can be greatly enhanced.
