When the materials are the base of social civilization, they also brought a lot of resources, energy and environment problems which gradually become the key factors that restrict material industrial sustainable development. As methods which can quantitative evaluate the environmental impact through out materials production, Life cycle assessment has become a general environmental management tool. But life cycle assessments usually need many basic data, which have very strong regional characteristic. So many countries all over the world have built their LCA database to store and management the local LCA data, but database construction in china about LCA is relatively backward. Based on this situation, taking building materials for the research object, materials life cycle analysis network database that accords with Chinese materials industry situation is developed independently in this paper.Firstly, about the technical route, four technologies that are used to develop network database is expound systematically, which are ASP, PHP, JSP and ASP.NET. Comparing their advantage and disadvantage about application of system platform, difficulty degree to develop program, safety performance, and system expansibility and so on, ASP.NET has been applied to develop the network database, and Microsoft Access is used as database management system, Microsoft VB.NET is used as programming language, which lays a technique foundation for the development of network database.Secondly, by investigating foreign LCA network database, combining Chinese materials industry situation, structure design of life cycle analysis database and detailed design of all the data tables are carried out in this paper, which comprise of flowsheet inventory data about resource cost and waste discharge, the industry standard data that respective the whole level of materials industry and the data table to collect company basic production data. In terms of the technical system of LCA, the interrelated data, mainly data of resource consumption and waste discharge in the producing process of building materials, including cement, glass, ceramics and walling material are treated, analyzed and calculated, then life cycle inventory of all the researches are acquired. After importing the data into life cycle analysis database according to its structure, Chinese materials life cycle analysis database is built. In all, 5744 records covered 115 building material corporations and 244 research objects are involved in the database including 1963 cement records of 37 corporations and 96 research objects, 1212 glass records of 12 corporations and 42 research objects and 1923 ceramic records of 28 corporations and 56 research objects, as well as 646 wall material records of 38 corporations and 38 research objects.In the end, taken the life cycle analysis database that has build as data source, Microsoft ASP.NET was used to develop the network database which can be used in Chinese materials industry. There are several functions in the network database, such as searching of flowsheet inventory data, searching of energy cost and carbon emission and data collection. In the searching of flowsheet inventory database, life cycle inventory of the flowsheet can be searched, some auxiliary information that used in life cycle assessment also can be searched, such company information, industry information and description about production line and so on. Comparison of energy consumption and carbon emission between company level and industry level can be carried out in website to be intuitively displayed the difference between them, and the content of life cycle analysis database will be extended by data collection through the internet, and compressive life cycle analysis database that comprise of different materials will be build in the future.Generally, there are two advantages for building up life cycle analysis network database. On the one hand, it can provide data to Chinese life cycle assessment, and satisfy the need about life cycle inventory used in life cycle assessment of Chinese materials industry. On the other hand, it can provide a good platform for communicating LCA data between LCA research societies effectively, and promoting the development and further application of life cycle assessment in China.
