Life-cycle assessment is a " CRADLE TO GRAVE " approach to analyze products, processes and services. It analyzes their resource consumption, energy sources consumption and waste emission. By the study of LCA, the quantity of object's environmental burden is depend on the different status and technology levels of different country or region .Building the Database for these data in the Environmental sphere of steel industry is necessary, and set up a database of it.The steel industry not only consumes numerous resources, but also causes seriously environment effect. In order to apply the LCA method to assess the environmental impact caused by the steel industry ,and provide the supporting data for LCA. It is important to develop the management software of database to manage the basic data (the consumption of energy source, resources and wastes) as well as to operate the collected data.The database management system of steel industry is a kind of windows application software developed by Visual Basic 6.0 language connecting Microsoft Access 7.0 The program design carried out by the open Database Connectivity (ODBC) and Structured Query Language (SQL) to directly access and provide basic database operation. The system is characteristic of wide selection of data sources , rational design of data structure, automatic querying for information from different aspects and high visual level and better expending. It also has the same style as windows browser , and it's easy for users. As a part of LCA database, this programme will be benefit to the development of software in LCA.
