A museum is a social educational institution. And to provide the audience with the real exhibition and truthful information is its basic social responsibility. Therefore, the authenticity of exhibition is not only a key feature of the museum, but also an important principle for exhibition design. This has become a consensus of today's museums. However, what is the authenticity of the museum exhibition, and how to ensure its authenticity? These problems has not been researched systematically in current museology. So the theory can not provide enough support to today's museum exhibitions, especially when the exhibition turns from a simple emphasis on "real objects" to "real phenomenon". Due to some non-unity and deviation on the understanding of authenticity, in today's museum exhibitions there have been some display means and design expressions out of the museum authenticity. This situation was more prominent in history museums or history exhibitions.Through the exhibition, this paper makes some discussions and analysis on both theory and practice of the authenticity in the history museum. And it is held that the authenticity of museum exhibitions is neither simple authenticity of real objects, nor utter emphasis on realistic art. But the authenticity of exhibition in the history museum is an organic synthesis comprised by objects, the true content and the realistic form of exhibition. At different levels, there are different forms and focuses of the authenticity: the real objects, which are the basis of the authenticity of the entire exhibition, are mainly embodied in physical properties and authenticity of their own; the authenticity of the content of the exhibition refers to the objectivity of historical understanding; and the realistic form of the exhibition is mainly embodied in the vivid sense of realism. In addition, the relational factors on authenticity at three levels are analyzed, and some relevant principles in practice are brought up.
