At present, there are more than 1,000 kinds of educational journals in our country. There is a lot of information in educational journals, such as successful experiences, lessons from failures, new research trends, new suspects, assumptions and theories. Information in educational journals can reflect some ideas of education, educational reform and scientific research as well as developments. These journals are playing an increasingly important role in promoting professional development of teachers in primary and secondary schools and can't be replaced by any other media and measures.It's very important to study educational journals. First of all, it can reflect the national, regional development of education. Secondly, it can reflect the teaching concepts and teaching methods. Thirdly, it can reflect the development of society and economy. Lastly, studying educational journals is good for improving the quality of teachers.English teaching and research notes sponsored by East China Normal University is a core journal on Chinese basic foreign language education. Since founded in 1978, the magazine has followed a policy of "led by theory, guided by practice" and made great contributed to our country's basic education.The main aim of this paper is to have an in-depth understanding of the English teaching and research notes,learn more about the content of publications - the present conditions of English teaching in primary and secondary schools, analysis of existing problems and reasons of English teaching in primary and secondary schools, and put forward some suggestions for the development of English teaching and research notes .The practical significance of the study is to provide reference for the editors to develop the journal better; understand the status quo and development trends of English teaching in primary and secondary schools.The research paper is characterized by a penetrating analysis of English teaching reform in China's primary and secondary schools by studying a foreign language journal on basic education. A comprehensive study of a variety of methods used in this study demonstrates the accuracy and objectivity of this research; first-hand access to research data demonstrates the reliability and richness of the material used in the research. The first chapter introduces why the title is chosen. The second chapter of this paper carries out a full range of analysis of journals in five aspects: the arrangement of column of journal, the source of contributions, the authors of the articles, references and research methods. The third chapter takes "English in primary schools" for example and analyzes the characterful column of the journal and finds the characteristics of primary school English column published from 2001 to 2005: 1) rich topics for discussion, 2) concern about increasing groups, 3) enhanced awareness of references, 4) little theoretical research, 5) low self-concern,6) unbalanced regional development. The development of the journal reflects the development curriculum objectives, teaching methods, teaching models, educational technology and research trends of English teaching in primary schools. Based on these studies, the author thinks about the issues reflected in the column: the connection between primary and secondary schools, the teaching of English in primary schools in rural areas, English enlightenment teaching and creation of the ideal environment for English learning. In the fourth chapter, the author tries to put forward some suggestions for the future development of English teaching and research notes .
