Research On The CMM&PSP Based Software Process Management In Software Outsourcing Projects For Japan

Software outsourcing business is developing very fast at present. Especially software outsourcing towards Japan develops dramatically because of region and culture. With the gradual and deep cooperation, outsourcing towards Japan is in great demand to develop to a high level. However the ability of project management in domestic software enterprises prevents its development. In order to improve project management ability, many companies applied software improvement model-Capability Maturity Model (CMM). But CMM only tells us what we should do, not providing specific knowledge and skills needed to realize KPA. So the application of CMM is still in exploration phase.The paper points out the project features in Japan-based software outsourcing projects and the main issues in applying CMM by lucubrating the Japan-based software projects situation and the application of CMM. The issues mainly include weak quality control consciousness and difficulties in data collection and quantitative. However Japanese customers pay more attention to these items as well as the personal diathesis and standardization.To solve these issues and provide a series of fine software process methods, we make a research on Personal Software Process (PSP). Finally the paper offers the CMM- and PSP-based project management model by combining the author's software outsourcing experiences and the features of outsourcing projects. The core of the model is to combine PSP model and CMM, keep PSP and organization process consistent in goal, plan and templates, and achieve the total goal of project process by conducting PSP. Meanwhile the model ensures the implementation of personal software process with the total project restriction.The paper illustrates the specific usage of the model from plan, data collection/measurement, defect prevention and continuous improvement, and meanwhile provides related templates. The application of the model in several projects validates the model has strong maneuverability. And the comparison in actual projects makes sure the model has achieved good effectiveness in guaranteeing project progress, quality and efforts.
