The trends of present design in electronic systems are toward high speed, small size, and lower voltage levels. Due to these trends, the influence of ESD becomes a more serious problem. How to precisely evaluate the effect of ESD by measurement and simulation, and try to solve these questions quickly is the most important topic at present. By the electromagnetic compatibility simulation software FLOEMC, this paper provides an accurate and efficient numerical simulation model of electrostatic discharge generators which permits to reproduce the discharge current in the contact mode. The effects of ESD on 50? transmission line are simulated by this model in the contact mode and the results of the current waveform have been confirmed by the satisfactory agreement between this model and IEC61000-4-2 standard. Therefore, this provides a foundation for the research of the protection against electromagnetic radiation. In the end of this thesis, a reliable setup for the ESD measurement is proposed in protection devices are studied in detail and floaing system. ESD behavior and protection devices are studied in detail and a corresponding SPICE model is built up for simulation validation.
