With the continuous expansion of enterprise-scale and the increasing competitive pressure of enterprise, how to reduce business operating costs has become the third source of profit enterprises. In the enterprise operating costs, logistics costs accounts for a large proportion and inventory costs account for a significant portion of logistics costs. So, development and application of the inventory management system has gradually become hot recent years.The main purpose of the thesis is to apply the ideas and methods of workflow to the development process of the inventory management system. Because basic theoretical research about workflow technology is not mature, so this thesis focuses on improving workflow methods of modeling, and applying the modeling method to the inventory management system. Petri net modeling and UML-based modeling is two commonly methods of workflow modeling. In order to get better application of modeling methods, the new rules to the workflow modeling is given by the author, propose improvement measures and expansive the functions.The main purpose of the inventory management system is to reduce inventory costs. As inventory costs is the larger proportion in the total cost of production enterprises, so through effective inventory management methods even reduce the small percentage of their savings in funds is also considerable. The basic way of reducing inventory costs is to optimize the inventory. On the basis of an inventory optimization model, in which bulk orders are considered to be arisen at a fixed time together with fixed demands, many models are utilized in this thesis, such as the second time the random strategy model, security inventory allocation model and centralized multi-level inventory optimization with random demands. Multi-level inventory can be effectively optimized by these mathematical models.On the basis of the application of workflow modeling technology, two crucial functions, goods entering the warehouse management and goods out of warehouse managemen, are particularly modeled and meticulously designed. In the process of system designing, characteristics of the technology workflow are fully considered according to the principle, which is " give the appropriate information to the appropriate person at the appropriate time ".Because of multi-level inventory management system's complexity, only partial functional modules in this thesis are given model and detailed design.
