Nowadays, it is information society,and the world has entered the intense competition era in the computer information management field. Information has become another great resource after the labor force, land and capital resource. The one, who controls more information and makes use of information more effectively, will has a place in all aspects of the competition, and be more advantageous. This has been acknowledged in the worldwide. It's very necessary to take information technology and computerization in inventory management in order to seize the opportunity and have an upper hand in the competition. A high-grade university has its special properties, which has not only the same department institution as a common university, but also its professional characteristics simulation company and simulation workshops under the department. Therefore, it becomes more and more important to develop an inventory management system to meet the requirements for both the university and company. Development of inventory management system has its macro significance, which can conform the informationization and modernization period, improve efficiency, and promote the national economic structure improvement.With the development of information technology, computer information management system has drawn increasing the attention of enterprises and institutions. This paper mainly analyzed some basic function and compositions of the inventory management system for Zhuhai College of Jilin University, including system requirements analysis, architecture, function module division, analysis of database schema, and so on. This article focused on the actual development of the application.In this paper, for the urgent need of current information modernization and the current development of Zhuhai College, inventory management system for Zhuhai College was developed and implemented.(1) It studied and discussed the special needs of the system. As a part of computer applications, using the computer managing the product inventory information, the inventory management system has some incomparable advantages that are different from artificial management, for example, quickly searching, easily finding, high reliability, large storage capacity, good privacy, long life and low cost. It can save more and more human and material resource, which can greatly enhance the efficiency of Zhuhai College's goods inventory management and is the important condition of management that is scientific, regularized, integrated with information age. Therefore, it is extremely necessary for Zhuhai College to develop an inventory management system, which has its special technical meaning and managerial implications. (2) It used the C/S structure to design the whole system. As the technology of the C/S structure developing more perfectly, it has irreplaceable advantages in the development of database applications. For instance, the client connecting with the server directly and no intermediate links make sure fast response; the beautiful interface and multiple forms can fully satisfy the customer's individual requirements; the management information system based on the C/S structure has stronger transaction treatment capabilities to achieve complex business processes. In view of these, according to the needs of the Zhughai College's inventory management system, the thesis used the SQL Server2000 as the database server and C# as a client development tool, designed the inventory management system based on two-tier C/S (Client/ Server) structure, and required that the system supports TCP/IP protocol which could be run under Windows environment.(3) After analyzing the system use cases, it adopted the extended UML activity diagram modeling method to model the inventory management system, which could make the relevant personnel effectively accessing to overall information to achieve a fast and convenient, efficient, accurate, intelligent integrated inventory management.(4) According to the specific design principle, based on analysis of the system functional requirements, we designed the system function through the following five main modules: system maintenance module, goods storage maintenance module, goods out of database maintenance module, data query module and statistical report print module. The operation of the system maintenance module is mainly for administrators, and password change is also aimed at the general user, including the following features: user management (personnel access management and password change, adding, modifying and deleting users), database clean-up, section information database management, user information database management, goods class library management, change information database management, data error-checking, data copy, data installation and defragmented. The main function of the goods storage maintenance module is to store the new shopping goods, register the beginning stocks, return stocks, overage materials processing and other functions. After opening the original stock registry, the buyers initiate the new shopping goods operation, the competent staff and warehouse managers assure the quality together. The main function of the goods out of database maintenance module is goods out of library and Pankui process, whose operation can be initiated by the material recipients and completed by managers, billing staff and warehouse managers together. The main function of data query module is to query goods category, inventory information, out information, storage information, section information, user information, changing information, etc. Inventory goods inquiries can be a quick check of the goods store and composition of queries according to CLC, prices, dates, purposes, certificate number, department, personnel, the name, and specification models. The statistics report printing module is to achieve statistical printouts of monthly goods inventory, warehousing, materials usage of various departments, monthly reports, annual reports, accounts and stock plans. (5) Based on demand analysis of inventory management system, the conceptual structure and logical structure were designed. During the conceptual structure designing process, it identifies the basic information of goods, storage of basic information, storage lists, out lists, inventory information to be the entity, at the same time clears a relationship between the various entities; during the logical structure designing process, identified the physical corresponding database table: the section table, the changing table, the user permission list, the user information table, the goods category table, the inventory information table, the storage information table, the out library information table and the suppliers'information table, etc.(6) It adopted Visual C# as the front tools and SQL Server 2000 as the server database to achieve the above-mentioned five function modules, and gave the specific running instance.(7) Finally, it analyzed the application advantages of the system. The thesis researched and developed the Zhuhai College's inventory management system, based on the C/S structure, which could standardize the college goods management, improve the school management level, and enable the college's inventory management to achieve full informationization. It achieved to input the goods information and manage the stock goods by type, which could facilitate to query and add the goods, greatly improve the efficiency of the inventory management staff, save manpower, and avoid many drawbacks like filling out of storage or storage document by hand and manually adding cumbersome statistical data. It could in time collect, record and analyze the suppliers'information, and then find the potential information to serve the college better.
