With the wide application of network video monitoring system in people's production and life, poor stability and difficult management shortcomings in PC-based network video monitoring system are exsited now, while the rearch of embedded network video monitoring system with small size and good performance has become the hotspot, along with broad application prospect.The system design is based on low power design technology. Focus on the existing methods on the basis of a single processor, low power design for the system is researched on both hardward and software. High performance and low power embedded processor PXA270 is used for hardware, open source embedded Linux operating system is for software. Procedure designed with a flexible, modular structure, is divided into video acquisition, compression, transmission and receiving module. In order to improve video processing speed and reduce system power consumption, based on the system of power estimation, acquisition module and the video compression module design is optimized. Memory mapping technique is used for video capture to reduce the video I/O power. In order to reduce code computing capacity and enhance video coding speed, low level of MPEG-4 coding framework is used for video compression module. At the same time, the large amount of computing motion estimation algorithm is analyzed in depth, and nearest neighbor search algorithm is selected and improved, the ultimate power reduction of the system is achived.Remote monitoring function is achived in the design of embedded network video surveillance system. The overall functionality and performance is tested in the end. By analyzing the results of data from the video processing speed and video compression ratio of the system, the performance of the system has been improved greatly than in the past.
