Strapdown inertial navigation system mounts the inertia measurement unit (gyroscope and accelerometer) along body frame, physical platform of flat inertial system is replaced by computer and software, SINS can offer all the basic navigation message including body angular rate by calculation. Compare to the flat inertial navigation system, SINS has a series of advantages, such as small size, low weight, low cost, high reliability. So SINS represents one development direction of inertial navigation system.Function of common instruments is implemented by hardware technology and software technology in computer by using virtual instrument technology. Virtual instrument technology has lots of advantages, such as convenient for use, friendly interface, prefect function. Virtual instrument users can install a variety of instrument function according to the demand in LabVIEW.Common SINS system has a long research periodicity, high degree of difficulty and inconvenient for maintenance. This paper expound a method to design a teat and simulation system for SINS based on virtual instrument technology. It can raise the studying and developing efficiency of SINS.This paper expounds the basic theory and working process of SINS and solves the crucial technology problem that how to use universal data acquisition card to collect data from inertia measurement unit in LabVIEW and calls the Dynamic-Link library document to develop the software and driver for data acquisition. This paper also discusses the model of the inertial instruments and the way that how to calibrate the parameter of the model. It uses data from test to build the model of the inertial instruments. This paper uses LabVIEW to develop the simulation software for initial alignment, attitude matrix updating, velocity calculation, position calculation and error analysis and simulates the main functional mode of SINS. The application software can operate correctly in computer in terms of the result of the simulation and obtain satisfied consequence.
