The paper constructs a complete PMP system which makes use of ARM processor S3C2440X as CPU, WinCE as the embedded operating system and GPS module as external circuit. The paper analyze kernel of WinCE mechanism and develops boot program to load WinCE automatically recurred to development tool Platform Builder to develop specified operating system.The paper proposes a practical project which consists of GPS navigation system, audio module, audio interface and so on by full-scale research of WinCE operating system, ARM architecture and embedded system. According the scheme, the paper draws principle graph of the mainboard and related PCB graph, tailor and seals the circuit mainboard, and completes hardware construction of the mainboard. Debug tool Multi-ICE of JTAG simulator combined with ADS tool of the ARM Company are introduced during hardware debug process, and Boot Loader program is also developed during the whole debug process. Based on the kernel of ARM processor ARM9 S3C2440X and embedded WinCE real-time operating system, the paper designs and develops a portable device applied in GPS navigation which is a device combine GPS and PMP technology.
