With the rapidly development of embedded field,the GPS(Global Positioning System)that only be used in large equipment such as aircraft, rocket ,ship and etc before has into the people's life.The advantages of small size, high efficiency, low power consumption and high reliability of Embedded equipment combining perfectly with GPS technology, derived many relevant applications. Such as common are vehicle-mounted navigation, portable navigation and positioning system, outdoor track positioning and public security monitoring system, etc. In many applications, the basic hardware equipment is mostly adopts ARM processor. ARM processor not only has low power consumption, strongly processing capability and supports many popular embedded operating systems, such as Linux, VxWorks WinCE, etc. it has become the standard hardware of information industry configuration. Adopts ARM processor and WinCE combination of embedded system in the consumer electronics, network communication, military defense and industrial control etc can be widely used. This paper research the GPS navigation system development and implementation based on ARM and WinCE system.In this paper, analyses three majors of development the GPS system based on WinCE: First, the hardware foundation of the system operation.In order to develop GPS navigation functions, the first job is have a hardware support platform, there are adopted the HF2440 development board, chip is S3C2440 ARM processor. later need a GPS receiver. There are uses German Kirrio serial GPS receivers. Second, the system runs in an operating system, after finished hardware platform is build software platform. The main work is customization and transplantation WinCE operation system to development board, other and BootLoader design, serial driver development etc. Three, GPS navigation system design and realization, a detailed analysis of system each function module, the core work are: satellite signal acquisition and map display, orientation and navigation, places to search. This system design is completed, classics in the simulation and developing board operation practice proves that can successfully completed GPS signals acquisition, display maps, to find interest in place. Interface simple operation, achieve the expected requirements.
