| Power Management (PM) is one of primary functional modules in embedded portable electronic products. With the development and popularization of the battery supporting devices as portable computers and hand-held apparatuses, the design of systematic PM is becoming more and more important. If the energy consumption of system is high, the battery life will be short, which is inaceptable in electronic products. Efficient PM methods can switch the energy consumption modes of the system dynamically, improve the performance of the system, lower the energy consumption effectively during running time, lengthen the working time and the battery lifetime, moreover economize energy and decrease pollution to the environment. This thesis first discusses the structure of the INTEL PXA270 platform designed by our team and the kernel characteristic of the WinCE operating system, Secondly, the design of the PM scheme for the PXA270 embedded platform on WinCE OS are mainly introduced. Then this paper elaborates the design and implementation of basic functions of the PM including idle mode and sleep/resume mode for the embedded system, and discusses the backlight control of the LCD and the design of the battery driver, analyzes the causes of failing to wake up the device and corresponding solutions in details taking the AC'97 module as an example. This thesis presents the total solution of the PM of the system on WinCE OS, which fulfils the requirements to low energy consumption and quick response and provides reference for similar project research. Finally, this thesis tests and evaluates the energy consumption of the experimental platform, analyzes some defects in the design and proposes a vision for further work. |
