With the rapid development of surface mounting technology (SMT), dataacquisition with the regard to the quality and the production of the key equipments onthe SMTline become more and more important. Because of the singularity of function,poor real-time performance and inconvenience to be integrated with other equipments,the present way of data acquisition is hard to acquire and analyze the data in real time.As a result it is not avail to improve the level of SMT production. The protocol ofGEM/SECS is introduced to acquire data in real time and deal with problems arose inproduction.ThiswillgreatlypromptthequalityandefficiencyofSMTproduction.The technology of data collection on SMT line is studied in the paper. Withconcern about the actuality and problems of the present SMT line, the protocol ofGEM/SECS is introduced. After the study of the protocol, functional models andcommunication mode, the package of GEM/SECS information and time-out process isdesigned. Taking the print machine on the SMTline as the example and combined withthe network technique, a system for data collection is designed based on the protocolGEM/SECS.Accordingtothetestingresults,themechanismofself-adjust responseandtime-outmanagementisdesignedtoensurethefluentnessofdatacollection.The testing result and performance analysis show that the data acquisition systembased on GEM/SECS has the many advantages over traditional one, such as following:lower complexity, more efficient real time and share of the data etc. So the dataacquisition system discussed in this paper can implement data collection of printmachineandmucus-distributingmachine.ThesystemisverypracticalandsignificanttothedevelopmentoftheSMTindustry.The data acquisition of print machine is implemented in this paper, but there aresome other machines on the SMT line such as placement machine, mucus-distributingmachine and so on. In order to improve the efficiency of the entire SMT line,multi-threadtechnique and recurrent andsubsequent processingshouldbe introduced toimplementthedatacollectionofallequipment.
