Today the wireless communication technology and Internet technology have been boosted. These two technologies start combining together. The key lesson of the wireless internet application is to establish a value chain that includes user, operators and content provider.Short Message Gateway (SMG) is an interconnection, interoperalibilty message access platform, and it provides carrying capability for national wide message service for operators and service providers. SP can launch a variety of rich content through this platform, and the usage" one point access, enjoy anywhere".First, this article makes a brief introduction on the short message service's origin, current developing situation. And also summarizes the category of SMS, new features of SMS and the future of SMS. In view of shortcomings of the early SMS, SMG has been introduced. This paper proposed that encapsulating CMPP with the object-oriented thought to form user-defined protocol(UMPP—Unified Message Process Protocol), through an in-depth analysis of CMPP protocol and the working principle, including business process and routing organizations. In routing management, dealing with integration. Analysis and design of the core of the Short Message Gateway, especially to Message Process. On the design and implementation of this module, mainly using multithreading, parallel processing, and flexible multi-level queue management.Finally, analyses functions and characteristics of this system. The system described in the paper has widely been used in the operation environment, and has obtained great economic and social benefit.
